My research focuses on DA receptor initiated signaling cascades in the ventral striatum that lead to behavioral plasticity. The overarching goal is to characterize the molecular biological mechanisms underlying the generation of appetitive behaviors in the rat. Postsynaptically, I am working to elucidate the contribution of PKA, PKC, and CaMKII to changes in the trafficking and function of AMPA receptors and other proteins observed following exposure to psychostimulant drugs. Presynaptically, I am characterizing the contribution of different PKC residues on the DA transporter to acute and sensitized amphetamine-induced DA overflow.
